Glen Wood founded Wood Brothers Racing in 1950 under a beech tree on his family’s homeplace in Buffalo Ridge, Virginia. He holds an astonishing record as a driver and team owner. While driving, he won 19 races in the Modified, Sportsman Convertible and “Sprint Cup” divisions, more than any other driver at the time he retired from driving. In 1998, he was named one of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers. In 2012, Glen was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame as a driver and team owner. Other honors include induction into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, the Daytona Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame, the Motorsports Hall of Fame, the NMPA Hall of Fame and the Virginia Motorsports Hall of Fame. He’s also received numerous awards including the 1968 and 1973 Myers Brothers Memorial Award, the 1993 Buddy Shuman Award, the 1995 Pocono’s Bill France Award of Excellence, the 1999 Spirit of Ford Award, the 2005 Smokey Yunick Award and the 2010 Henry Ford Innovation Award.
Glen Wood is now semi-retired, having turned the day-to-day management of his race team over to his children Eddie, Len and Kim. But even at age 89, leisure isn’t on his agenda. He and his wife Bernece host visitors at the Wood Brothers Museum in Stuart.
President, Co-Owner - Eddie Wood
Eddie, the oldest of Glen’s children, began his racing career by working at his father’s shop as a teenager doing odd jobs. He ventured off to college, but returned to the best automobile teachers, his father Glen and his uncle Leonard. In his early days, Eddie did the paint and bodywork on the famous Ford and Mercury cars and later was a chassis specialist. As time progressed, Eddie, along with brother Len and sister Kim, found themselves heavily involved in the day to day operation of the team. In 1985, Glen officially turned over running the family business to the three children. They relied heavily on each other, and today they operate one of the most storied and successful race teams in NASCAR history.
Chief Operating Officer, Co-Owner - Len Wood
Early on, Len wanted to know how things worked. With an educational background in electronics, Len, the younger of Glen’s sons, began working with his engine-building Uncle Leonard. The elder Woods served as the mentors who instilled knowledge and values to their second generation racers. After years of getting his hands dirty in the engine room turning wrenches, Len, along with his siblings, Eddie and Kim, was ready to help manage the team. Together, they run the longest continuous running race team in NASCAR.
Chief Administrative Officer, Co-Owner - Kim Wood Hall
Kim, the youngest of the Wood family’s second generation, began her career in racing by assisting her mother, Bernece, keeping the books and tracking the business details of the team. She performs all the duties of team office manager overseeing the complex business operation for the race team. Along with her brothers, Kim received guidance from the family in helping to manage the team. One thing has remained constant in the business…..owned and operated by the family.
Chief Business Development Officer - Jon Wood
Jon first joined the team doing various shop related tasks around age 12. He began driving shortly thereafter, progressing through the ranks to compete at NASCAR’S highest levels. Now actively participating in the day to day operations of the company’s marketing and business development, he works side by side with the rest of the executive team in sponsorship acquisition, retention, and innovation of the Wood Brothers image and brand.
