After a good final practice on Saturday in 85 degree weather, the Team felt they were prepared to run competitively in the Samsung 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway. However, Saturday night brought significant weather changes. Fans and teams arrived at the track under brisk, windy conditions with temperatures in the low forties and wind gusts over 20 miles per hour.
The #21 Motorcraft Ford Fusion took the green flag in 37th position. After running several laps, a change in the car’s performance was readily noticeable. Bill commented that the car was tight – a condition the team would try to correct all day. With only three cautions during the first 220 laps and six during the entire race, it became apparent that the team that performed best on long green flag runs would have the best chance of winning.
Bill and the Team worked hard all day to better the car’s performance and brought the #21 home in 28th place. Points leader Jeff Gordon won the race with Ford teammates Greg Biffle finishing 3rd, Matt Kenseth finishing 5th and Carl Edwards finishing 10th.
