After a rain shortened practice and having to make the race on time, the #21 team had to run a conservative qualifying lap. Despite the less aggressive approach, Bill still picked up two tenths of a second over his best practice time running a lap of 28.77 seconds. The time was good enough to make the race and start 36th. The teams will be back on the track tomorrow for two practices.
Jimmie Johnson won the pole with a lap time of 28.07 seconds.
