Short Day for Marcos Ambrose and Wood Brothers Racing at MIS
Brooklyn, MI (August 17,2008)-In Marcos Ambrose’s third start in the no. 21 Little Debbie Ford Fusion and coming off of a successful third place finish just one weekend ago, a disappointing early end to the day in the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway struck the no. 21 team on lap 16 with engine failure. The unfortunate circumstance left the team with a 43rd place finish.
Ambrose started the 200 lap event in the 39th position. He immediately experienced a loose handling race car and dropped to 42nd. Crew Chief David Hyder radioed to Marcos with encouragement, “Hold on to it and we’ll fix it when you come in to pit.” As Marcos got some laps under his belt and maintained position, the caution flag flew on lap 16, Marcos came around turn four toward pit road as smoke billowed from the rear of the race car. The team pushed the no. 21 to the garage from pit road where the race ended early for the 21 team.
Marcos commented on the frustrating afternoon, “I could move around. I wasn’t tight at all, which is really good for us. I felt like it was coming to me there. But, I was just riding around, being good and just trying to get to the first pit stop and get a good feel on the car, but was just unlucky. It’s just really disappointing for us. The water temp, everything was pretty good there.
It’s just hard. That’s what’s bad about this deal here. I was looking forward to getting a lot of laps under our belt here and getting comfortable, and making sure everything was together underneath me, and we were going to have a great day. It just didn’t work out.”
Wood Brothers Racing will head to Bristol Motor Speedway next weekend with returning driver Bill Elliott in the no. 21 Motorcraft Ford Fusion for the Sharpie 500, Saturday night, August 23rd.
