Marcos Ambrose Qualifies the no. 21 Little Debbie Ford Fusion at MIS
Brooklyn, MI (August 15, 2008)-In the Irish Hills of Michigan, Marcos Ambrose will make his fourth Nascar Sprint Cup start in the 3M Performance 400 on Sunday, August 17th after qualifying the Wood Brothers Racing no. 21 Little Debbie Ford Fusion on Friday evening in the 39th position.
With a cloud that sat directly over the track minutes before Marcos made his run, there were hopes that the cover would drop the temperature and assist with cooling down the surface so it would be a bit less slick. However, as soon as Marcos went to make his green flag lap, the sun was back out and he had no assistance from Mother Nature. He ran a 39.6 second first lap and reported that the car was loose. He then took the opportunity to improve the time with running a second lap, and he did just that with a time of 39.3 seconds, which was good enough to make it in the show.
Marcos and the 21 team are relieved that the pressure is off and can now focus on preparing for Sunday’s 200 lap event. Marcos commented on the team’s approach to the race after the qualifying session was over. He said, “We just wanted to get in. It’s just getting laps in these cars at these speeds at these kinds of tracks. You just have to gain confidence. I feel like we can relax and focus for the rest of the weekend. I’m like Hawaii Five-O, man, I’m on a permanent holiday.”
